BREAK FROM
PEOPLE
Sometimes you need a break from people.
Doesn't matter if you love them or not.
Actually, you probably need a longer break from the people you love.
They know where you live.
They got your number.
They know your schedule.
You can't even lie properly.
SIGNS YOU NEED A BREAK FROM PEOPLE
You get five minutes alone and suddenly you're dancing like the settlement hit.
You said, “I'm going to run downstairs.”
That was 47 minutes ago.
Nobody downstairs asked where you were. That's why you stayed.
You volunteered to go to the store.
Water the flowers.
Check the mailbox.
Take the garbage out.
You don't even like errands.
Now you Employee of the Month for the recycling?
You sit in the car after getting home.
Engine off.
Radio on.
Finger snapping.
House right there. Avoiding that front door.
You went to the mall for one thing.
Found absolutely nothing.
Left like a fine-ass stranger asked for your number.
Didn't buy shit.
Fantastic trip.
You heard your name from another room and briefly considered changing it.
Then they said it again.
Full principal's-office loudspeaker energy.
Please report to the living room immediately.
SO...IS IT NORMAL TO NEED A BREAK FROM PEOPLE?
Yes.
Sometimes you don't need a vacation.
You don't need to “disconnect.”
You don't need a 14-step nighttime routine.
Though apparently everybody's freezing their face, wearing a red mask and sleeping with tape on their mouth now.
Girl, I just wanted nobody to speak to me.
That's the routine.
You need everybody — including your watch — to stop asking you for shit for ten minutes.
No “quick question.”
No “you got a sec?”
No Slack.
No Teams.
No “while I have you...”
You don't have me.
You barely had me before you started typing.
Break me off a piece of that peace.
WHY DO I NEED A BREAK FROM PEOPLE?
Because people require things.
Answers. Decisions. Attention.
Rides. Replies. Opinions.
Sometimes even the people you love start sounding like notifications with legs.
You don't hate anybody.
Everybody just needs to shut up for a little bit.
WHERE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TAKING THEIRS
Car off. Still sitting.
House right there. Avoiding that front door.
The errand was a cover story.
We needed absolutely nothing.
You've been clean for 11 minutes.
Mind your business.
You don't even eat peas.
It's 68° and nobody needs anything from you.
Stay focused.
“I'm just going around the block.”
Which block?
Don't worry about it. You can't come with me.
WHAT DO YOU NEED A BREAK FROM TODAY?
No judgment.
Unless you write “my kids.”
Actually, no.
We get it.
